UPDATE: For the benefit of readers newly arrived on this site from Finland. The guy who goes by the name Abu Suleiman al-Nasser and has been calling for attacks in Finland is likely just an idiot with anger-management issues. That said, any idiot can try and make a bomb or get his hands on a gun, and what happens next is not so funny. His obsession with Finland suggests he has some connection to the place — there's something odd and a little irrational about it, as though it is personal. With a little international cooperation, it should be possible to locate him and find out what he's about, who he associates with, what his capabilities (if any) are. Best case: he's a child left to use the Internet unsupervised. Worst case: he manages to kill someone.

A jihadi redhot at the Shmukh forum is continuing his one-man campaign of wishing for a terrorist attack in Finland.

He claims a bomb was found and defused in Finland, and prays that next time the bomb goes off.

He includes a pic from Finnish media purporting to show Finnish police doing something related to the suspect device.

He references the thread where the latest as-Sahab video is released (http://as-ansar.com/vb/showthread.php?t=40686), after citing Hadith to the effect that you should wage jihad and not fear death(?).

Remember this the next time there's a pogrom or another church gets bombed.

A couple of forums have a detailed guide to how mobile phones are monitored. The description is very detailed, such that I'd suspect the author of working for a mobile phone service provider. I can't speak to its accuracy.

British intelligence (presumably GCHQ) is being credited with last year's interception of the first edition of Inspire magazine, and the replacement of 63 pages with deliberately munged pages of a PDF of cupcake recipes from The Ellen DeGeneres Show. That the cupcake recipe PDF was used to corrupt Inspire magazine is not news and is a demonstrable fact.

It was nice work indeed, particularly given what was likely a very short time period in which to act.
The better question, and the one none of the mainstream media seem interested in asking, is why claim credit a year on? Particularly since there was no follow-up effort to disrupt subsequent editions (a total of five have now been released, and they are already turning up in terrorism investigations).

The story is also told of how US DoD wanted to launch an attack, but CIA claimed rights to it, and then demurred. All this makes a good story. Not sure I believe most of it, but then who am I, really?

Key points:
• President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad risks impeachment following his failed attempt to wrest control over the Intelligence Ministry from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
• The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) supported Khamenei to reinstate the intelligence minister and restrict Ahmadinejad's power.
• Whether Ahmadinejad is impeached or not, the latest conflict among the civilian leaders has made the IRGC the most important arbiter of power in the Islamic Republic.

See J.M. Berger's examination of Ansar al-Mujahideen English forum and al-Hanein Arabic forum, in relation to three issues: Arab Spring, Anwar al-Awlaki, and the killing of Osama bin Laden.
In short, I like it.
A few thoughts, in no particular order:
• Ansar al-Mujahideen Arabic forum might have been a better choice for this exercise given the more nationalistic, rather than global jihadist, orientation of so many Hanein forum activists. Then again, maybe global jihad activists are more parochial in their interests than they might want to admit.
• Ansar al-Mujahideen English forum has almost no readers in the Middle East, with the exception of the occasional European jihadi who has come to "study Arabic" but still can't read the language. That combined with the fact that al-Qaida has been sidelined by events likely explains the lack of interest in Arab Spring among the non-Arabic speakers.
• Shame, shame on you, J.M.Berger, for minimizing the importance of Anwar al-Awlaki while the poor man is hiding from drones operated by vengeful former-Washington D.C. prostitutes ;-)

Anyone think it's coincidence that al-Shabaab is so deeply entrenched in this part of the city?
Telecommunications companies based in Somalia’s largest open-air market have been hit by stray shells in the latest round of fighting, leading to internet failure in the past four days."Our internet service has been down since 24 May," a senior official of an internet service provider, who requested anonymity, told IRIN on 26 May.
The official said many people's livelihoods depend on internet use; "for many businesses and journalists, the internet is their lifeline".
He said his company was trying to revive the service. "We depend on the telecoms companies and when they get hit we are also hit."
A local radio journalist told IRIN he was unable to send his reports to his station based outside the country. "It is very frustrating."
The three major telecommunications companies, Nationlink, Hormood and Olympic, have their most important equipment at Bakara market, which has been a flashpoint in the fighting between insurgents and government troops backed by African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeepers in the past two weeks.
"When we were setting up, in the 1990s, Bakara market was the safest place but now it is the most dangerous," another official of a telecommunications company said.
The official told IRIN the headquarters of Hormood - the largest telecommunications firm in the country - in Bakara had been repeatedly hit by shells, killing and injuring staff and destroying equipment.
"It is not easy for us to move the equipment we have here, so we are caught in the middle of a war zone," the official said.
In the past eight days, government and AMISOM troops have intensified an offensive to dislodge Al-Shabab insurgents who control Bakara market and parts of the city.

An impressive rant and explicit call for terrorist attacks in the United States and Europe, penned by one "Muhannad Alobini al-Khorosani" [sic?] was posted to a password-protected section of the Ansar al-Mujahideen Arabic forum on 14 May 2011.

Included are pointers regarding various kinds of explosives, and repeated mention of gays, lesbians, and AIDS (as part of a laundry list of grievances and alleged sins of the West). The list of targets includes explicit mention of university meeting rooms used by Jewish student organizations.
On a password-protected section of the al-Jahad forum, NG's entry into the field currently dominated by Predators and Reapers got the attention of the jihadi boyz. See:
